New Precinct Committee People
Congratulations to all of our new Precinct Committeemen (PCs)!

These 33 new PCs will be elected on August 24th, or to save money the Navajo County Board of Supervisors may “deem them elected” at their meeting. They will take office in January.

In case you didn’t remember or never knew, only elected PCs can be officers on NCDC’s Executive Committee (Chair, 1st Vice Chair, 2nd Vice Chair, Secretary, or Treasurer) and a State Committee Member. Thus only these 33 elected PCs will be eligible to hold offices. An election to fill these positions will be held at our December 4th reorganization meeting at 2:00 at La Posada in Winslow.

The Arizona State Committee meets four times a year to do the State Party business. Our county is allowed one position on the State Committee for our Chair and one State Committee Member for each 3 elected PCs. Therefore, we will have one for our County Chair and 7 others—for a total of 12 State Committee Members.

Under the NCDC Bylaws, each of the Executive Committee and the Past Chair are allocated one of the State Committee Member positions. In practical terms this means six of our twelve positions will be taken up by the Executive Committee members, leaving six positions available for other PCs.

Please put Saturday, December 4th, at 2:00 at La Posada in Winslow on your calendar and plan to attend our reorganization meeting. If you have any questions, please contact me or one of the other current officers and committee members.

A big thank you to all you of you who ran for PC! This is an important, and often thankless, position in our County. Your service will be valuable to all of us.

Barb Smith
Current Navajo County Democratic Committee Chair
